The “Van” is still going!

DCLSVan1-10 003

Despite the cuts in library budgets, the delivery service between libraries in the county is still continuing in 2010!

What does this mean?  You can request almost any item from any library in Delaware County and have it delivered to the Aston Library for you to pick up here.  This is free of charge, except for DVDs.

Here is how you do it:

  • Go to the catalog (http://charlotte.delco.lib.pa.us/ or just go to one of our catalog stations at the library)
  • Search up the item you want by title, author, subject, keyword etc.
    • If it’s part of a list of results, click on the title to get to the “detailed” view of the item
  • Click the request button
  • Enter the info requested (Your last name and card number)
  • Select “Aston” as the Pickup Location
  • Hit Submit
  • Wait for the confirmation
  • Contact a staff member (610-494-5877 or just visit us at the Circulation Desk) if there is an error
  • You will receive just 1 (one) phone call when the book arrives.  A message will be left.  The book will be held for 3 (three) days.

This greatly expands the material you have access to with your library card!  There are over 500,000 items to choose from!  Wow!

The van is provided by the Delaware County Library System!

Book written by the family of one of our staff!

Alex Saunders, father of Joanne Burns has come out with a new book called “To Our Credit”! This book is an autobiography of Alex Saunders and his brother, Peter. It contains first hand accounts of his life growing up in Hungary during the time of World War II and the German occupation. It tells of the adventures of Alex and his family as they fled German gunfire as well as the emotional impact the war had on his family. The book utilizes both prose and poetry to communicate the imagery of these events.

This book is now available for checkout at the library!  Click on the cover below for more information or to request the book:

Our book budget is reduced by 53% this year, but we’re still trying to get the best, most interesting materials to add to our collection.  Have a suggestion? Click the “Leave a Comment” button, or contact us, and we will try to get it.  Even better- if you have some recently-published books you’re finished with, consider donating them to the library.  We really appreciate all the help we can get!
